You may have noticed during the hot or warm seasons, tiny little bugs around your backyard or garden resemble the one pictured here. Not to be confused with the elm seed bug, although they look very similar, boxelder bugs are just as big of a nuisance when it comes to invasion, especially in the fall. When temperatures begin to drop, boxelder bugs try to escape the colder fall and winter temperatures by moving in your homes, garages, sheds, etc.
If you find that sightings of these little creatures are becoming more and more common indoors, it may be time for boxelder bug control and treatment options.

Boxelder Bug Life Cycle
Spring & Summer:
Boxelder bugs typically emerge when the weather starts to warm up. Adult boxelders will feed on both plants and seeds. A few weeks after they begin feeding, they will lay their eggs on trunks, branches, and leaves of boxelder trees.
Late Summer & Fall:
Boxelder bugs start to leave trees to find protected areas against cold temperatures. Only full-grown adults survive the winter. They usually hide in walls or attics of structures that will keep them warm.
Winter & Early Spring:
Boxelder bugs are usually inactive during the cold season. As the temperatures warm up, boxelder’s will wake up and begin migrating towards openings or windows and by spring any surviving boxelder bugs are fully active and ready to repeat the cycle.
